Hudson Valley Community College

Hudson Valley Community College (HVCC) offers a one-year, online Dental Assisting Certificate Program designed for individuals new to the dental profession. This program equips students with the skills to perform a range of tasks in dental offices, including sterilization, dental material setup, and administrative duties. Graduates are eligible to pursue licensure as a New York State Registered Dental Assistant (RDA).

• Flexible Online Learning. This program provides the same diploma as the on-campus counterpart but allows for flexible, online learning. Students complete semester-based courses without the need for set login times, making it ideal for those balancing work or family commitments.
• Licensure Preparation. The program meets all New York State requirements for dental assisting licensure. After completing the program, graduates can take the New York Professional Dental Assisting (NYPDA), Radiation Health & Safety (RHS), and Infection Control Exams (ICE) administered by the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB).
• Immediate Workforce Entry. Focused on preparing students for entry-level roles, the certificate allows graduates to begin working in dental offices immediately after completing their licensure requirements.

The curriculum includes 27 credits, covering essential dental assisting skills such as:

• Sterilization Techniques: Proper handling and preparation of dental instruments.
• Office Management: Administrative tasks, including patient scheduling and record-keeping.
• Radiation Health and Safety: Preparing students for the RHS exam.
• Infection Control: Training in compliance with industry standards and preparation for the ICE exam.

To enroll in this program, applicants must:

• Have a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Meet technical requirements for online learning.
