NYU College of Dentistry

The NYU College of Dentistry offers a unique, tuition-free, 6-month Dental Assisting Certificate Program designed to provide participants with the skills needed to begin a career as a chairside dental assistant. This program is highly selective, admitting only 12 participants per cycle, with applications by referral only. It aims to empower individuals, particularly NYU Dentistry patients, by equipping them with valuable career skills.

The curriculum combines didactic, laboratory, and clinical training taught by expert faculty from NYU’s Department of Dental Hygiene & Dental Assisting. Students learn patient care, sterilization protocols, dental anatomy, infection control, and chairside assisting techniques. Additionally, they gain real-world experience by working alongside DDS students in group practices and specialty clinics.

Candidates must meet the following criteria:

• High school diploma or GED (official transcript or scores required).
• Two letters of recommendation (one may be from the referrer).
• A 500-word statement of interest.
• Full-time availability, five days a week, for six months.
